Orthopaedic x-ray interpretation course | 1 February 2025
Overview
This course provides an in-depth understanding of interpreting normal and pathological radiographic findings in orthopaedic cases, covering both adult and paediatric patients. Participants will learn how to correlate imaging with clinical decision-making, enhancing their skills in musculoskeletal radiology.
Objectives: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify normal radiographic anatomy
- Recognise key orthopaedic pathologies in trauma and elective conditions on both paediatrics and adults
- Apply radiographic measurements to the upper limb, lower limb, and spine
- Link imaging findings with orthopaedic clinical decision-making
- Engage in case discussions with expert-led panels
Who should attend?
The course is designed for Foundation Doctors, Core Trainees, Trust Doctors, A&E Doctors, General Practitioners, Medical Students, Physiotherapists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and any healthcare professional with an interest in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal care.
What is included in the course?
- Spotter cases:
- To practice interpreting radiographs with unknown pathology
- To assess both normal and pathological findings across various regions of the musculoskeletal system
- Demonstrations of normal anatomy:
- To learn to recognise key radiographic landmarks
- To understand the normal presentation of upper limb, lower limb, and spine anatomy
- Trauma radiology:
- To explore common trauma cases, including fractures and dislocations
- To understand how to recognise subtle fractures and associated injuries
- Elective conditions:
- To cover radiographic presentations of common elective conditions (e.g., osteoarthritis, joint replacements)
- Learn decision-making based on chronic musculoskeletal disorders
Interactive components:
- Expert-led case discussions: Participants will engage in guided case discussions with an expert panel, allowing them to apply knowledge in real-world scenarios
- Hands-On practice: Participants will interpret a variety of x-ray cases, focusing on clinical relevance and diagnosis
This comprehensive course offers practical, hands-on training to improve radiological interpretation skills and supports better clinical decision-making in orthopaedic care.
