Cathy is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist in Upper Limb Dysfunction who holds BSc Physiotherapy (London 1990), MSc Manipulative Physiotherapy (Queensland, Australia 1996), and Fellowship of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (2010).

At University College London (UCL) Cathy leads the Upper Quadrant teaching on the MScs in Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Paediatric and Adolescent Sports Physiotherapy (UCL). She has contributed widely to National and International shoulder meetings and works closely with Shoulder Surgeons throughout the UK. Cathy is a peer reviewer for Shoulder and Elbow.

Previous roles include Lead of Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner team at Imperial College Healthcare Trust (1998-2012), Club physiotherapist to Saracens RFC (1992-1996) and Company Physiotherapist to Birmingham Royal Ballet (1997-1998) and Rambert Dance Company (1998-2004).

Clinically in private practice, Cathy’s specific interests include Shoulder Instability, Elite sporting adolescent shoulder pain, complex upper quadrant pain including hypermobility disorders and rehabilitation of overhead Sports (Especially Tennis, Swimming and Water Polo).

Carlos Cobiella grew up in Spain and graduated from Medical School at the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid.

He moved to London where he completed his trauma and orthopaedic surgery training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He became interested in shoulder and elbow surgery and had further training in this area under the care of Messrs Bayley, Calvert and Lambert at the Shoulder and Elbow Unit at the RNOH and Professor Birch at the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit.

He is a Consultant Shoulder & Elbow and Sports Surgeon at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust. He is founding member of The Shoulder Practice, Head of the Upper Limb Section of the Institute of Sports, Exercise and Health at UCL. He collaborates closely with the English Institute of Sport, UK Athletics, the British Olympic Association and professional sports teams. He was part of the medical team at the London 2012 Olympics and is the NFL Upper Limb Surgeon in Europe.

He enjoys all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery, including the treatment of sports injuries, arthritis and fractures and has a keen interest in arthroscopic techniques. He is a member of faculty on numerous courses in arthroscopic and sports injury surgery, both national and international. He directly supervises the training of medical students, junior doctors, a UCH shoulder and elbow fellow and is convenor for the London Shoulder Meeting. Carlos continues to publish and present research for advances in surgical techniques regularly.

Mr Henry Colaço is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in reconstructive and sports shoulder and elbow surgery and complex upper limb trauma including hand and wrist injuries. He is the Clinical Lead for Upper Limb Surgery at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and a founder member of the Shoulder Practice and The London Shoulder Meeting. He is a member of the British Elbow & Shoulder Society (BESS), the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma & Arthroscopy Association (BOSTAA), the Orthopaedic Trauma Society (OTS) and The Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA).

After graduating from Imperial College School of Medicine with Distinction in Surgery, he completed his surgical and orthopaedic training in London teaching hospitals, including fellowship posts in shoulder & elbow surgery at University College Hospital, and complex upper limb surgery at St George’s Hospital. He was awarded the prestigious BESS Travelling Fellowship which he undertook in Paris and Lyon, and was appointed as a Locum Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at University College London in 2016.

In 2017, he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, where he is a surgical trainer, and Clinical Lead for upper limb surgery. He is the lead researcher for trials of a micro-arthroscopic camera, a fixation plate for distal radius fractures, and is involved in a trial of a novel plate for clavicle fixation. He is a site investigator for the NIHR-funded ProFHER-2, SCIENCE, and SOFFT randomised controlled trials.

He is a former member of the BESS Education Committee and founding member of the BESS Simulation Working Group. Since receiving the ‘Innovation in Simulation’ Award from the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) in 2015, he has continued his work to use simulation to enhance surgical skills training and improve patient safety. He developed a surgical skills course for UCL medical students and is working with industry partners to create a surgical skills simulation centre for the Wessex region.

In 2015 he was appointed as a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and is involved in teaching and training at regional, national and international courses. In September 2018, he chaired the shoulder & elbow educational and scientific sessions at the BOA Centenary Conference. He is an invited reviewer for a number of international journals including Bone & Joint Journal and Shoulder & Elbow, and in 2020 he was honoured to join the Editorial Board of the Journal of Arthroscopy.

Simon is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University College London Hospital, Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science, University College London. He was previously senior surgeon on the upper limb service at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Trust, and visiting surgeon to the States of Jersey. Simon has published widely on all aspects of trauma and shoulder and elbow conditions, and is currently completing an MD concerning the effectiveness of fixed-fulcrum reverse shoulder replacement for the treatment of rotator cuff deficient shoulder arthritis. He has supervised MD and PhD level students researching frozen shoulder, rotator cuff disease, and elbow arthroplasty. He is the current author of the Shoulder Girdle and Upper Arm chapter of Gray’s Anatomy and the equivalent Gray’s Surgical Anatomy texts. He is co-supervisor of research into aspects of shoulder anatomy in the Department of Anatomy, University of Innsbruck.

Mr Jae Rhee qualified from Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2003. Following completion of his surgical training in Middlesex & UCL Hospitals, he undertook postgraduate orthopaedic training on the reputable Oswestry Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt programme. Following the award of FRCS in 2012, he further pursued shoulder fellowship training in London. Mr Rhee has expanded his expertise further by undertaking additional hand & upper limb fellowship training at the Hand & Wrist Unit in Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, as well as being awarded the EFORT fellowship where he spent time at the internationally renowned Karolinska Sports Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder & Upper Limb Surgeon at the Princess Royal Hospital in the West Midlands, where he undertakes elective and emergency surgery for all aspects of shoulder, elbow and hand disorders. He has particularly developed a specialist interest in arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

He finds research and training equally important. He has published widely including several contributions to textbooks of orthopaedic surgery, and reviews scientific articles for the ‘Bone and Joint Journal’. He is a regular faculty and examiner on regional and national courses, as well as lecturing MSc students at the Institute of Sports, Exercise and Health, University College London.
