Empowering the next generation of MSK Innovators

Applications are now open for the MSK Innovation Accelerator programme, hosted by MedTech SuperConnector and part funded by Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK).

The programme is designed to accelerate the development of musculoskeletal innovation and thereby create and scale early-stage MSK ventures across the UK. The MSK Innovation Accelerator programme is open to MSK related Innovations at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3 or above from research fellows, postdocs & late-stage PhD candidates, or innovators from Academic Research Centres, small to medium size enterprises with research laboratories, or clinical institutes with a medical technology in development in the lab or digital environment. Based within Imperial College London and forming part of its entrepreneurship support offering, MedTech SuperConnector is a collaboration of leading academic institutions with a shared vision to support early career researchers in the development and translation of their early-stage medtech innovations.  Its remit is to support technological innovation, advance entrepreneurship education and find new and effective ways to accelerate MedTech R&D. It tackles complex health challenges through a targeted track-based format delivered in partnership with specialist healthcare organisations.

Dr Arash Angadji, CEO of Orthopaedic Research UK, said: ‘Our support for The MSK Innovation Accelerator programme is in the spirit of our founder Ronald Furlong, who combined a highly successful career as an orthopaedic surgeon with an equally successful career as an entrepreneur. We are the first MSK charity to actively support start-ups and entrepreneurs and this programme from the MedTech SuperConnector will help to further accelerate the development and commercialisation of innovative ideas within MSK.’

Hiten Thakrar, Head of MedTech SuperConnector, said: ‘Supporting emerging innovators and medical technologies is central to our mission at MedTech SuperConnector. With the support of Orthopaedic Research UK, we’ve developed the MSK Innovation Accelerator programme and are truly excited to support and advance innovations that will help shape the future of musculoskeletal care.’
