Overview
Delivering exceptional care to athletes requires seamless collaboration across the multidisciplinary team. This one-day meeting brings together leading experts in sports medicine, orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, radiology, cardiology and performance medicine to share contemporary approaches to the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries.
Through a combination of evidence-based lectures and case-led discussions, the programme examines the clinical reasoning underpinning complex decision-making, from injury assessment and operative management to rehabilitation, return-to-play and performance optimisation. By exploring common sporting conditions from multiple specialist perspectives, delegates will gain practical, clinically relevant insights while highlighting how multidisciplinary practice and technological innovation continue to advance athlete care.
This meeting is intended for consultants and specialist physicians in sports medicine, orthopaedics, cardiology and related disciplines, alongside physiotherapists, musculoskeletal radiologists, sports scientists and performance staff involved in athlete care. It will also be relevant to team clinicians working in elite and semi-elite sport, strength and conditioning coaches, rehabilitation specialists, and trainees including registrars and fellows.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- Improve multidisciplinary decision-making among clinicians and performance professionals managing athletic populations, particularly within high-performance sport.
- Evaluate the role of data, imaging and emerging technologies in informing diagnosis, clinical decision-making and rehabilitation strategies.
- Apply evidence-based approaches to return-to-play decision-making and performance optimisation for athletes with cardiac conditions.

Prof Howard Ware
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and the Institute Chair for Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, and Rheumatology, Cleveland Clinic London
Mr Howard Ware is a Professor of Surgery and the Institute Chair for Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Rheumatology at Cleveland Clinic London. Previously he was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Director of the Wellington Hospital’s Knee Surgery Unit. He has more than 30 years’ experience in orthopaedic surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons .
Mr Ware is also a member of several professional societies, including the British Association Knee Surgery, and is a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, British Volume.
Dr Philip Batty
Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine, Cleveland Clinic London
Dr Philip Batty has been involved in elite sports medicine for over 28 years. He worked as the Deputy Club Doctor at Manchester United between 1996 and 1999 combined with positions at the English Institute of Sport and Sedbergh School caring for a range of athletes, both professional and recreational, of all ages and ability.
Dr Batty became Head of Sports Medicine at Manchester City Football Club in 2011-2012, in which this was the first year the club won the Premier League. He followed this as Senior Team Doctor for the England Rugby Team from 2012-2014. He is the Team Doctor for Middlesex County Cricket Club, provides Medical Directorship to the London Spirit cricket team, and Consultant to the English National Ballet.
Dr Batty was formerly the President of the Independent Doctors Federation.
