Consultant preparation course | 22 February 2025
Overview
Organised jointly by ORUK and the BOA 
A one-day consultant preparation course catering specifically for candidates applying to NHS orthopaedic consultant posts.
Candidates will be assigned into small groups for the mock interview stations. Feedback will be provided and candidates will have opportunities throughout the day to ask questions to the faculty. The faculty will consist of senior consultants who are involved in the consultant appointment process and recent consultant appointments.
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for ST8 registrars, post CCT trainees, locum consultants and SAS surgeons intending to apply for consultant positions.
Educational aims/learning objectives:
- To improve your chances of obtaining your dream consultant post
- To learn how to structure your answers to maximise your performance
- To bring confidence and authority into your interview performance
- To learn how to improve any presentation required on interview day
- To be able to anticipate what the interviewer wants and where to take it
- To cover key NHS issues

Hiro is a Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon and has been working in South Wales for 16 years. He is committed to surgical education and promoting clinical leadership within the NHS. He served BOFAS education for over 10 years and is now the Honorary Treasurer. He currently runs the BOA Future Leaders Programme which he developed as Chairman of the BOA Education Committee and sits on Council as Editor of the Journal of Trauma and Orthopaedics. He has been an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) for 10 years.
