Funding for medical students and foundation year doctors to support research-related activities

Inspiration Fund: OBB Research Support Fund

Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK), the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association (BOTA) and the British Orthopaedic Medical Students Association (BOMSA) are offering of small pots of funding for medical students and foundation year doctors to support research-related activities.

An applicant could win up to £500 to support research activities, including:

  • Conferences and event tickets
  • Travel to events
  • Publication fees
  • Vouchers for participants

The funding for successful applicants will be delivered to their host universities or hospital trusts.

Successful applicants must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Demonstrable interest in original research in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal health
  • Outline specific expenses pertaining to how the bursary will to be spent
  • Demonstrate how the funding will benefit the applicant and their professional career development in research
  • Award winners will be expected to participate in a short Q&A case study about their research interests. 

Application process

  • Online applications: Wednesday 1 October – Thursday 30 October.
  • Interviews: week commencing 17 November.
  • Announcement of winners: Tuesday 25 November.

Applications will be scored for shortlisting and in interviews by a team of reviewers from ORUK, BOTA and BOMSA.
