New Trustee
Dr Helen Compton Joins ORUK Board
We are delighted to announce that Dr Helen Compton, Stakeholder Engagement Manager at the NIHR, has been appointed a trustee of our charity.
Helen has a longstanding interest, and professional engagement in translational research and innovation from a variety of perspectives across the life sciences sector. After completing a PhD in Biology at Imperial College and two Postdocs in the USA, Helen commissioned programmatic translational research whilst in Government initially in infectious diseases but also working across Government Depts. to coordinate the UK’s environmental health and safety research portfolio and lead reporting into the OECD on manufactured nanomaterials.
Now a scientific generalist, Helen has a deep understanding of infrastructure investments by key life science funders and their role in supporting SMEs, clinicians and academics to develop the clinical evidence for regulatory MedTech approval.
Helen is a member of the CW Innovation Advisory Board, the joint venture between Chelsea and Westminster NHS FT and the hospital charity CW+ and interacts with medical research charities, other government funding research agencies and MedTech accelerators.
Outside work Helen enjoys being outdoors and gardening, meditation and is a passionate house rabbit owner and keen motorcyclist. Helen is a member of several women’s networks for walking, motorbiking or socialising.
