The Programme

This course is designed for candidates taking part 2 of the FRCS (Tr and Orth) examination, and consists entirely of mock viva sessions. It will provide you with the opportunity to refine and test your trauma knowledge, practice your exam technique, and clarify any issues with an experienced faculty.

Professor and Consultant Trauma and Upper Limb Surgeon at the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Centre and the University of East London

I serve as Professor, in the Smart Health Academic Unit, at the University of East London. I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Centre where I serve as a board member representing Medical Staff in the trust.

I am a committee member at the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS). I am a co-founder the OrthoGlobe Initiative and FRCS Mentors initiative. I am a Gold member and Fellow of the AO Foundation, Switzerland. I am an associate Editor, Editorial Board Member and reviewer in multiple peer-reviewed journals and a UNICEF Champion since 2012. I was awarded multiple distinctive international awards and travelling fellowships from the NHS Academy, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), ISAKOS, European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT), International Trauma Foundation (AO) and others.

I have authored two books, one on the uses of stem cells in orthopaedics and an atlas in shoulder arthroscopy. I am currently editing a textbook for shoulder Injuries by Springer and a reference book for upper limb problems in general practice. My current research interests include novel materials, ligament and cartilage regeneration, artificial intelligence and machine learning in Medicine, minimally invasive fracture fixation devices, arthroscopy outcomes and techniques to aid rapid return to sport after injury. I have designed Orthopaedic instruments, designed and published different techniques, authored more than 80 numerous scientific papers, completed two Degree level theses including a PhD on rotator cuff tendons healing and successfully filed patents. I was awarded a fellowship in orthopaedic and trauma surgery presented by The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Following the completion of specialist training, I undertook upper limb fellowships at distinguished centres of excellence. These included fellowships training at internationally recognised units within the UK: the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and a complex trauma fellowship in Oxford.

I undertook international fellowships in Der Balgrist University Orthopaedic Centre in Zurich, Switzerland as well as Mayo Clinic, The Steadman clinic and, Stanford University in the US. I also undertook multiple clinical visitations to different elite centres in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
